An open house is scheduled for January 9 to discuss the implications of the growth of the French immersion and Spanish bilingual programs at Westgate School and Bishop Pinkham School. The purpose of this open house is to provide parents with a summary of the feedback that has been received during the first stages of the engagement process and to clarify the next steps in the decision process. No decisions will be announced.

Calgary, AB

The French Immersion and Spanish Bilingual programs at Westgate School and  Bishop Pinkham School continue to experience rapid growth due to program popularity and the city of Calgary’s extraordinary overall growth. A previous re-designation of Grade 6 French Immersion and Spanish Bilingual students from Westgate to Bishop  Pinkham School allowed for ongoing growth of both programs in Westgate School, based on needs at the time. Currently, Westgate School is unable to accommodate further increases in student population in either program.

There now is an opportunity to consider a variety of options for accommodating students in the French Immersion and Spanish Bilingual programs, beginning in the 2013-2014 school year. Administration is committed to working with parents and communities in the upcoming weeks to address the student accommodation issue for
Westgate and Bishop Pinkham schools.
